Privacy Policy
The short version
- Solo and bot games keep everything on your phone and work without a connection.
- If you play online, a player profile (your chosen name and your record) is stored so that other players can see it.
- Signing in with Google is optional. It backs up your statistics and settings to your account.
- Ads come from Google AdMob, and a one-time purchase turns them off.
- We do not sell personal information, and we have added no analytics or crash-reporting software.
1.Who we are
Just Zilch (com.mani.justzilch) is a dice game for Android, published on Google Play by A byte of Everything (Mads Kristensen). In this policy, “we” and “us” mean the developer.
For anything about your data or this policy, email appsbyabyteofeverything@gmail.com.
2.Data kept on your device
The app keeps these on your device:
- your statistics (games, wins, best turn, free rolls, zilches, penalties, results against the bots and your solo records);
- your settings (sound, vibration, bot speed and dice animation) and when the app last asked you for a rating;
- your daily ad allowance and your Remove ads status;
- your player name and online preferences, and when your statistics were last backed up.
This stays on your device unless you sign in with Google, which backs up your statistics and settings (see Linking a Google account).
Clearing the app's storage in Android settings (usually Settings → Apps → Just Zilch → Storage → Clear data; the names vary by phone) or uninstalling the app removes everything the app keeps on your device.
3.Online play and your account
Play versus players is optional and turn-based, and runs on Google Firebase. When you open it or Settings, or choose a player name, the app creates an anonymous sign-in: a random user ID from Firebase Authentication, with no name, email address or device identifier attached.
To post or accept a challenge you choose a player name. Stored under your user ID in Cloud Firestore:
- your player name and your record (games, wins, losses, forfeits and streaks). The players you face see them, and the Top players leaderboard shows your name with your wins, losses and win rate;
- the challenges you post;
- the matches you play, including each turn's moves, so that your opponent can watch your turn.
Any signed-in player of the game can read your profile, which is how the leaderboard works; only you can change it. This data is used only to run the game, and not for advertising or analytics. Solo and bot games use none of it.
Like any online service, Firebase receives your IP address and basic technical details with each request, such as your phone model, your Android version and the version of Google's software. Google uses them to run the service and to protect sign-in against abuse.
4.Linking a Google account
Linking a Google account is optional: every part of the game, online play included, works without it. If you link one, Firebase Authentication stores that Google account's email address, name, account ID and the link to its profile picture, so that your player profile can be restored on another phone.
We do not use your email address to contact you or for marketing, and other players never see it. Google handles sign-in data under Google's Privacy Policy.
Sign in is on the Challenges screen. Signing in links your anonymous identity to your Google account, or switches to the profile already linked to it. It also backs up your statistics and settings to a private area of your account that only you can read, and restores them when you sign in on another phone (the newer copy wins).
5.Advertising
You get three free games each day, shared by every game mode and online matches (up to version 3.16: three games against the bots and one online match start). After that, Watch ad plays a rewarded video ad, or a full-screen ad if no rewarded ad is available; if no ad can be loaded at all, the game or match starts anyway and the app says so. Ads are never shown during a turn. The one-time Remove ads purchase turns all ads off.
Ads are served by Google AdMob. To show and measure ads, Google's advertising software in the app may collect your device's advertising ID, your IP address and an approximate location derived from it, general information about your device, and how you interact with the ads. Google handles this data under Google's Privacy Policy; see also how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Google's advertising software starts with the app, whether or not you watch an ad, and it keeps starting after you buy Remove ads. So Google can receive some of this data, such as your IP address, your device identifiers and the fact that the app was opened, together with information about how the app and the ad software perform (for example launch time), even if you never see an ad.
If you are in a region where the law requires consent, such as the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the app shows Google's consent form (the User Messaging Platform) before it requests ads. Your answer decides whether Google may personalise the ads you see. You can review or change it at any time in the app under Settings → Ad privacy (called Privacy & ad consent in versions before 3.15).
6.Purchases
Remove ads is an optional one-time purchase processed by Google Play Billing. Google handles the payment, and we never receive your card or other payment details. The app remembers the purchase on your device, and Google Play keeps its own record of it under your Google account.
The app is told only that the purchase succeeded. Restore purchase, under Ads & purchases in Settings, reads Google Play's record.
Google Play gives us a record of each Remove ads order, with details such as the order number, the product and the time, but never your card or other payment details. We keep these records to track sales and refunds.
7.Other connections the app makes
Besides online play, Google sign-in and ads, the app connects to:
- Google Firebase software. When you open online play or Settings, or choose a player name, the app loads Google's Firebase software from Google's servers (www.gstatic.com).
- Google Fonts. When the app starts with a connection, it loads its typefaces (Fraunces and Hanken Grotesk) from Google Fonts, so Google's servers see your IP address.
- Google Play Billing, when you buy or restore Remove ads.
- Google Play's in-app review. If the app asks you to rate it, the rating dialog is Google Play's own.
- The Google Play Store, when you tap a link to another game.
We have added no analytics or crash-reporting software to the app.
8.Sharing and selling
We do not sell your personal information.
Other players see your player name and record, as described above. Google provides our advertising (AdMob), sign-in and database (Firebase) and purchases (Google Play) as a service provider. We share your data with no one else.
In the terms of Google Play's Data safety section: Google's AdMob software collects and shares your device's advertising ID and other device identifiers, your approximate location (from your IP address), your interactions with the app and the ads (such as app launches, taps and video views) and diagnostic information, for advertising, analytics and fraud prevention. We collect your user ID, your player name, your online matches and challenges and, if you link a Google account, that account's email address and name and your backed-up statistics and settings, to run online play and manage your account, and we do not share them.
9.Security and retention
Everything the app sends to our Firebase project travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
Profiles and cloud backups are kept until you delete them. A finished match is marked for removal 30 days after it ends, and is deleted with its turn-by-turn records the next time a player in it opens online play after that (from version 3.16; earlier versions removed the match but left its turn records behind). When you delete your account, a match against another player stays in their history until then, with your name and user ID replaced.
10.Your choices and deleting your data
- Play solo or against the bots. These games create no profile.
- Skip Google. Online play works on the anonymous sign-in.
- Delete your account in the app. Tap the gear (Settings), then under Your data tap Delete account & data. This section appears once you have chosen a player name or signed in with Google; in versions before 3.15 it is called Account & data. Delete your account and data lists everything that is removed and kept, and how to ask us by email.
- Reset your statistics with Reset on the Statistics screen.
- Change your ad consent choice in the app under Settings → Ad privacy (called Privacy & ad consent in versions before 3.15).
- Reset or delete your advertising ID, or turn off ad personalisation, in your phone's settings (on most phones Settings → Google → Ads, or Settings → Privacy → Ads).
- Clear the app's storage in Android settings, or uninstall the app, to remove everything it keeps on your device.
Your rights. Under data protection law (the GDPR) you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or give it to you in a machine-readable format. Where the app asks for your consent, you can withdraw it at any time, as described above. Email appsbyabyteofeverything@gmail.com to use any of these rights; we answer within one month. You can also complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet) or to the data protection authority where you live.
11.Children
Just Zilch is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If you believe a child under 13 has created an online profile, email appsbyabyteofeverything@gmail.com and we will delete it.
12.Changes to this policy
If the way Just Zilch handles data changes, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date at the top.
13.Contact
Questions about this policy or about the app: email appsbyabyteofeverything@gmail.com. If you email us, we receive your email address and what you write, and we use them only to answer you.
An email started from Help & feedback in the app's Settings is pre-filled with the app version, your phone model, Android version and WebView version. You can edit or remove them before sending.
The Discord row in Help & feedback opens a page on this website. Once the Just series has a Discord server, that row leads to Discord, an external service run by Discord Inc. under its own privacy policy. The app sends Discord nothing.
